8.5.09 - The "Olde Girls" were in action this weekend at the Saranac Lake CanAm Tournament. FSU alums on the team, BB Alley, Bronnie Macintosh and Colleen Fahey helped the team out in their 3 wins and in a bruising semi-final loss to Beantown 22-0. BB is still living in New Orleans, Bronnie is a firefighter in Australia who is currently traveling in the states and Colleen is living in good ol' Tallahassee.

6.10.09 - An update from alum Mary Davis! - "I'm living in Miami now -- Stephney and I have a place here, and I love it!!! I am working for Miami-Dade county as a quality assurance specialist with the South Florida Workforce Investment Board. My job has been exciting and challenging recently, as we are tasked with the administration of stimulus funds. I am looking to go back to school for my masters in Public Administration within the next year. I see Lindsay Panzek often & we actually just did the MS 150 (150 miles for multiple sclerosis) in May. There have been a few Sahar sightings recently, as she is now playing for the Miami Womens Rugby Team. I guess you could say I'm pretty damn happy and healthy, so I have nothing to complain about! I checked out the reunion info on Facebook, and I think it will be awesome! I plan on coming up for that : )" Great to hear from another recent alum! Contact Mary at: maryjd0514@hotmail.com.

Muddy buddy 5.12.09 - FSU Alums Vicki Bowlin and Colleen Fahey were Muddy Buddies at this year's Muddy Buddy race in Orlando. Also competing was alum Christine Gigicos with her buddy, a fellow officer from the Orlando Police Department. Both teams did great! After the race, we all went to Leu Gardens for a nite of jazz in the park. We ran into a long lost alum, Julie Voorhes in the park... wow! Julie was last in Tallahassee back in '91. We actually last saw here standing on the train platform in Chicago after Nationals. She didn't fly so took the train home. Julie still has fond memories of her rugby days... she's now working in telecommunications in Orlando with hopes of moving to Las Vegas, baby! She promised to check in there with her email info. Great to catch up with you, Julie!

4.30.09 - One of our newest alums sent her parting thoughts to the team as she graduates from FSU (with honors) this weekend. These are feelings echoed throughout the years of this club ... enjoy!

"So I know I said bye to you all at the banquet, but I just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciated your friendship this year! Because I'm shy (until you get to know me) I haven't had a lot of college experiences that I would like to remember when I'm old, but thanks to you guys I have had more new experiences this year then my past 3 years combined!! I think that you guys helped me grow as a person and become more brave! Basically, I wanted to thank you all for making this the best year that I've had since I've been at FSU and making me feel apart of something. I will never forget any of you and will try to use my newly gained tackling skills whenever I can (without being arrested). You girls make me truly proud to be Garnet and Gold."

"I always believed that the person you are is shaped by the experiences that you have and the people you surround yourselves with, for this reason, I hope that you as a team continue to stay strong and have many great future experiences. I also hope that I was able to touch your lives even a portion of how much you touched mine. I may not have shown it, but every one of you has brightened my day at some point in time, even when you had disputes or issues amongst yourselves, I could always see a strong connection that sets our team apart from the others that I have seen and a camaraderie that separates Rugby from anything else that I have seen. I pray that your love of the game, your love of the team, and your love of FSU stays strong and that you never let petty issues weaken the team. I also hope we stay the prettiest team of the south (if you can't recruit any good looking rookies next year, I'll guess you'll just have to look back to this years pics lol)"

4.23.09 - Alum update from Leu Smith - "Long time no contact. I'm in Jacksonville, Fl. Working as veterinary surgical nurse for past seven years after 27 years as a certified master bench jeweler. Never too late for a change. Hope all is well with everyone. Miss you guys. The Jacksonville "Axemen" rugby team trying to get a franchise over here, going out to support them on May 2nd. Drop Leu a line at: leumouse@yahoo.com.

2.25.08 - A group of FSU Alums participated in the US Women's Rugby Foundation project at a Home National project in New Orleans for two days. Check out the project at: www.jclfund.org/tnplhn/. 2.20.09 - This just in from Dana Teagarden - "I'm getting ready to head to Dubai to referee at the World Cup 7's March 5-7. Milca Fils-Aime is going too and we're going to try to catch up so hopefully we'll have a pic to send you! I got to referee the awesome women's final at Petco in San Diego between USA and England in front of a great crowd. Unfortunately USA lost in the sudden death OT." 2.4.09 - The FSUWRFC family has lost one of our beloved teammates - Karen Hornsby passed away February 3, 2009 in Hollywood, Florida after battling the effects of a recent heart attack. Karen played with the team during the late 70s. She was our strong, fast fullback who was also a kind-hearted and fun person. She will be greatly missed by her teammates, friends and family.

Viewing and Funeral Services were held Feb. 9, 2009 at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home in Tallahassee. Several FSUWRFC alums were in attendance: Candi Orsini, Kathy Kojm, Rachel Shillinglaw, Gina Shlopak, Carol Kinnunen, Ellen Shine, Eileen McCann, Mary Waller, Jackie Watts, Colleen Fahey and a large group of her friends and co-workers from the Fire and Police Departments as well as her family members. Burial was Tueday, Feb. 10 in Bristol, FL at Misty Gardens Church.

Karen's obituary was published Feb. 8, 2009 in the Tallahassee Democrat.

For Karen and Family

"I am saddened by the news, and grateful to have spent time with her at Candi's 50th birthday party."
- Annette Ruff

"Karen was so awesome, such fun, I will always remember her drawl, the way she called Ellen Moran's name. This is so sad, we are not supposed to be having heart attacks, we are all still 20 and laughing at Susie's dogs..."
- Kerri Heffernan

"Hornsby was a beautiful person who's spirit left a wheelbarrow full of smiles and banjo pickin' to this earth -- soo -- lift your glass/lift your heart/lift your shirt and throw karen some beads!!!! remembering a truly lovely person thru and thru - 3 cheers for karen - hip hip=hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!!!! Can you imagine the selection committee cause heaven's got a kickass fullback now."
- BB

"Karen was a kind person who loved giving this rookie rugby player plenty of advice. She was always smiling and regularly sent silly and touching emails. Though I never played with Karen, I heard about her rugby toughness and brilliance from her proud father when I worked with him. She will be missed."
- Colleen Fahey

"Just wanted to say a prayer for Karen Hornsby, one of our own "old girls". May she find forever peace. We will miss her."
- Karen Cooper

"Karen was truly a gentle soul. I can still picture her wry smile and hear her light laughter. She had a lovely, whimsical, subtle sense of humor. We were lucky to have her in our presence."
- Ellen Moran

"The rugby team was drinking at "dime time" at the Pub after practice. Karen liked a particular beer tap. The next day I noticed the gear shift in her Jeep was replaced with a beer tap! Smooth operator."
- Ellen Moran

"Thank you for sending out this sad news. I am so glad that I was able to spend time with Karen at Candi's 50th birthday."
- Laurie Perkins

"I played with Karen in 76 & little in 77. She was a wonderful person, kind and always had a smile on her face. She will be missed terribly. She is in God's hands now. God Bless."
- Debbie Riley

"As I sit with an ice bag on my left knee and poised for the full replacement of my right knee this summer, I am reminded of the kinship and friendship that comes from such great people as Karen Hornsby."
- Del Stephens

"One of my fondest memories of Karen is watching her running full speed, catching a high kick, scoring a try and the defense wondering how she did that, it was beautiful. And I am thankful for the time I spent with Karen and others who came together for Candi's 50th it was good to catch up."
- Susie Rosen

Karen"Oh how deeply saddened I am to hear of the passing of Karen Hornsby. We had so many good times together, both on the field and off. I remember getting stuck in the mud in her jeep and we laughed till it hurt, building Rocky's outhouse, picking her banjo, Mardi Gras, going to the "sinks". I will never forget her. I think this pic is from the Red Beans and Rice Tournament of '77 or '78. That's me on the banjo next to Karen and Jenny Cleaveland (Emory Univ.) on the guitar. I am very thankful for all the times we spent together."
- Karen King

To add a comment about Karen, please e-mail Colleen Fahey.

11.16.08 - Alum Sarah Camp was recently spotted at a Tallahassee Boot Camp workout. She sent in this update:
"Hi everybody, Yes, I ran into Colleen at Boot Camps To Go and what a surprise! We chit chatted and it was great to hear about everyone. She then asked me provide an update about myself. So, to keep it simple, after earning a Masters in Physical Education, specializing in Sport Administration, I moved to South Carolina to work for the Department of Corrections. I worked in SC for a little over a year and a half as an Activities Therapist. Then I returned to Tallahassee employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCI/FDC Tallahassee, as a Recreation Specialist and later promoted to the position of Case Manager.
While working at FCI/FDC Tallahassee, I decided to return to FSU. I earned a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice, concentrating on Corrections, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy, transferring ideas from the field of education to the field of corrections. And who knew ... my dissertation was published this year! I hope everyone is doing well. Take care, Sarah"
Thanks for the update, Sarah! Contact Sarah at Destine22@comcast.net.

FSU went 2-2 this time around in the collegiate bracket but everyone had a great time and gained valuable experience. BB was our "guest coach" and helped the team learn the finer points of rugby. BB is still residing in New Orleans and is an ER Nurse.. her lifelong goal! She even brought along a team mascot, Beaujacques! A special thanks to BB for treating the team to a fabulous seafood dinner on Saturday nite! Contact BB at beaujacques12@yahoo.com. 7.29.08 - Alum Lindsay Panzek (2001-2003) sent in this update: "Hey there! It's been many years since I've caught up with all you Tallahassee Rugby Lassies, however, ol alum Heather Oliver just sent me a link to the Alumni page and it was great reading up on all the present day stories of those friends we once played with. I noticed that I might be able to update you with a little contact information about myself: I'm currently living in Miami after graduating from the University of Miami in 2005 with my bachelors degree in nursing. I currently work as a registered nurse at Baptist Miami Hospital in the ICU and am happy to say I love my job! Through networking in local South Florida, Heather and I crossed paths at a local bar as strangers and started comparing college stories -- "Oh you're a Noles fan?" "Me, too!" "Yeah, I used to play rugby there.." "No way! Me, too!"... you get the idea -- the rest is history. We have since become good friends and still get a kick out of reminiscing about the old days at FSU.

In the meantime ol alum and teammate, Mary Davis, has moved down to the Miami area. She and I recently completed the Multiple Sclerosis Bike Ride from Miami to Key Largo and back for a total of 150 miles of cycling madness to raise money for the MS Society. Hooray!

With a poor rugby following in South Florida (and my brittle bones after all those years of rugby! just kidding), I've moved on to training for my first triathlon this October (which is kicking my butt!). It's exciting to be back in the competitive sports world again around so many athletes!

I hope this email finds you and all the other rugby ladies doing well in Tallahassee. Thanks again for all the updates on the FSUWRFC page and I hope the rugby tradition continues on strong!" Send Lindsay an email at: bubsy139@yahoo.com

Myth Book 5.27.08 - Ros Chou send in this update: "On the weekend of May 10th my team, the Austin Valkyries, traveled to Atlanta for a pair of friendly matches against the Atlanta Harlequins. Milca Fils-Aime drove down from Blacksburg, VA to hang out and she caught me up to "speed" about her newest adventures as a Roller Girl! Fittingly her Roller Derby name is "The Acid Assassin" since has a degree in chemistry from FSU. We were also lucky enough to see Patty Jervey who un-retired for a few minutes to play in the b-side game. All in all it was a good rugby weekend, the first match was close and went to Atlanta with a score of 24-32, and then my team was triumphant in the b-side match 24-0."

"The following weekend, I saw Dana Teagarden here in Austin. She was a referee for the Men's National Championship that was being hosted here."

"In non-rugby life news, my book produced from my master's research went to press on May 23rd and will be released this July/August. I have attached the cover. It was a lot of work, but I am so glad to have completed something so meaningful. I am still in school at Texas A&M with 2 years left before finishing the Ph.D. I have been teaching undergraduate courses here as well."

Great to hear from you Ros! Congrats on the book! Drop Ros a line at: rosalind.chou@gmail.com.

5.22.08 - Kerri Heffernan checked in after seeing our website. "I have been coaching the Brown University Women's Rugby Club for 7 years - great side - we played in the final 4 this year (lost to Penn State) .. have qualified for D1 nationals 3 times in the last 5 years, won 3 Ivy titles .. produced 3 All Americans and 4 US players - sweet ... love to bring the girls down to play FSU this spring."
Great to hear from you Kerri! Drop her a line at: Kerrissa_Heffernan@Brown.edu

4.21.08 - Betsy Abrams '77 / '78, another one of our pioneer members has re-connected with us! Betsy writes: "I'm a very "old girl" and played briefly in '77 or '78 as a wing. My main interest was (and still is) soccer and I've played in 3 fairly recent Veteran's Cups ('03,'05 and '06). I played with Mary Holmes and Candi Orsini, and other terrific players who did all the work, while I scored a few points ;-). I live in Atlanta, GA." Drop her a line at: baabrams@hotmail.com

4.7.08 - FSU and UF Alum Eileen McCann participated in the recent UF reunion weekend. A bunch of UF alums were coerced into PLAYING in the Prom Rugby match, where the UF alums take on the undergrads in a rugby match where everyone is wearing a prom dress. Eileen reports a great time by all and some terrific tackling by the alums during the match. The weekend was also a fundraiser for the team's trip to New Mexico for the Collegiate Sweet Sixteen Championships. Check out more info and a video of the match! And congrats to the UF undergrads for making it to the Sweet 16 at this year's collegiate nationals! Bravo!

FSU Alum Selected to Coach South Senior Women
Patty 2.21.08 - From USA Press release:
FSU Alum and USA Eagle Patty Jervey was appointmented as the new Head Coach of the South Senior Women's All-Star team.

A record-setting leader on the national team, Jervey made her first appearance as an Eagle in 1989. She is the most capped player on the Women's National Team with 40 caps and holds the record for the most points scored with 178 total points. Jervey was a player on the Eagle team that won the 1991 World Cup, and was a key contributor for the U.S. team in the 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2006 World Cups.

Jervey has been an outstanding player for the South since beginning her rugby career more than 20-plus years ago first at the University of South Carolina. Her rugby career solidified after relocating to Tallahassee to play with perennial power Florida State. Jervey later moved to Atlanta and earned a spot with the Division 1 Harlequins.

Jervey has assisted with coaching the Harlequins over the years, and is now committed to using her extensive experience and contacts to help launch an intense rebuilding phase for the South Senior Women's All-Star program.

A young, developmental 2007 South team entered the National All-Star Championships last June ranked 8th. The South team upset the #5 ranked West by a score of 39 to 20, then lost by one try to Southern Cal in the Final, with a score of 25 to 20. The wins moved the South All-Star squad up to a 6th place ranking in the United States. Jervey plans to build on this momentum, and she shares Kevin Kittos' goals to not only expand and revive the South Women's programs, but to increase the visibility of South players on the Women's National Teams.

Jervey has successfully played most backline positions, but is most often seen at center and wing. She lives in Tucker, Georgia.

Dana Teagarden refereeing

2.25.07 - History was made at the IRB World Series Sevens, San Diego in February 2007. FSU Alum Dana Teagarden became the first woman to referee a senior men's international match. She was appointed by the IRB's Paddy O'Brien to six full matches over the weekend of international rugby, including the tough Bowl final between Argentina and Tonga. We can all be very proud of Dana, she smashed any 'glass ceiling' that might have existed, and rugby is a better place today because of her achievements. Three cheers for Dana!

2.21.08 - Another alum found! Alum Renee Sugarman stumbled upon our website while teaching rugby at her school. Here's her update: "I just found your site and I can not tell you how excited I am to be able to look back and see some of the photos from college. I work at North View High School in Alpharetta/ Duluth. I was using playing Rugby, at FSU, as an example for my lesson on speed and velocity. They could not believe I played, so I went on line and found you. I was looking at the photos and there was one taken with sometime in the 90's. Well it was taken in 1990 when I played. My kids loved seeing me, and of course they wanted to know all about the game and see as many photos as possible. I just wanted to say thanks, and what great memories I have being on the team. In fact it was the fondest of them all at FSU, and I learned so much especially about myself while I played. So thank you.

"So what is going on with me? You already know I am a school teacher, and I work with EBD kids, emotional, behavior disorder kids, and teach Science. I love it except for all of the paper work. So, when it came to learning restraining, I was the only women who did not have a problem. Before working at North View, I worked at a juvenile psychiatric detention center, with kids that were shipped in from all over the country. It basically was one step above juvenile jail, when the kids were to too hard core and had to be placed somewhere else. It was very interesting. l am now really involved with women's High School Lacrosse, and am a referee. It is great, and nice to know I can still keep up with the High school girls, since I am continually running up and down a football field. The other Referees love it and the girls can't stand it since they like to try to push or through a few elbows. It is a little harder to do when I can keep up. I wish they would allow a little more contact, but rules are rules."

"A funny thing recently happened to me when I was flying down to Florida. I ran into an old friend from FSU, who played football while I was there. He used to love to watch us, and admitted Rugby was a lot harder then football. It was strange we recognized each other after all of these years. We get to see each other often and he wants to come with me to watch a few of the games. Well, the bell just rang and I need to run. I do have a question. Is there any way that I can get a hold of my old Jersey or buy a new one? It would mean a lot. Thanks again FSU, and I look forward to coming down, and watching a some the games."

Great to hear from you Renee! Drop Renee a line at organicddrh@yahoo.com

1.15.08 - Another alum found! Alum Pam Tully found our site and wrote in this update!
"Somehow in looking for some FSU information I stumbled onto the FSU Rugby website and am glad I did. What memories came roaring back when I looked at the photos, we had some awesome times!!! Glad to know we were a part of history for FSU Women Athletics. I actually heard from Debbie Billington some time ago and Diane Connell. It was great to reconnect. Life has been full for me since the Salemburg listing on the site. I am now living in Raleigh NC but have been all over the state. I have been fortunate to have a wonderful career with the State Bureau of Investigation and am now 1 of 5 Assistant Directors....soon to retire in about 2.5 years. I am going to try and make it back to Tallahassee for one of the reunions.
Take care and my best to everyone!!! - Pam"
Great to here from you, Pam! Drop her a line at capsea20@aol.com

11.14.07 - Quite a few FSU alums were in action at the Division 1 and Division 2 club championships in Sanford, FL. Casey Fields, Katie Delcontivo and Lori Light were playing for the Orlando Women who came in 3rd in the D2 championships. Adrienne Debonis was playing for Naples, who finished 4th place in D2. Perennial powerhouse Patty Jervey was playing for the Atlanta Harlequins who came in 8th in the D1 division. Mary Holmes was coaching D2 Village Lions to their 6th place finish. Janine Pardee was helping coach the Orlando women. Kathy Flores, coaching the Berkeley All-Blues, led them to the D1 Championship and ended out her career there as coach as she moves on to more duties coaching the US Womens National Team. Also on hand was alum Dana Teagarden, refereeing several matches including the D1 Final. Congrats to all for a great FSU showing at the highest levels of the game! Also, thanks to the FSU alum fans (Jackie Watts, Christine Gigicos, Colleen Fahey, Vicki Bowlin, Rachel Shillinglaw, Kathy Kojm and Candi Orsini) who cheered on the alums still on the field. Your support means the world to them!

11.26.07 - Alum Amber Gerdes (2000-2001) checked in with this update. Great to hear from you, Amber!!
"I was searching random people on the internet today with my kids (kids meaning students - I'm a teacher now), and we decided to 'google' me! It brought up alumni pages from the FSU women's rugby page, and it definitely brought back some great memories! I don't know if you remember me, because I only played for about a semester and 1/2, during the 2000-2001 season. I definitely will never forget my experience playing rugby though! I no longer play rugby, but I do play a variety of other sports whenever I get a chance. I took a break after my BS degree to go "shock fish for a living with lots of government money" (aka. boat electrofish for the government), then I gave graduate school a try. I finally settled down (for now) back here in Kansas City, MO and I am a high school science teacher at Liberty High School (Liberty, MO). I'm not married, don't have any kids, but I do have a little dog named Diesel who is 'my little man'! FYI: My husband, Keegan Sparks, was one of the two FSU ruggers that coached the first women's team, along with Jim Thornton. We met on the rugby pitch. Keegan and I were so glad to see so many e mails of long lost friends, in particular Susie Quatro, who we lost touch with several years ago." It's so good to reconnect with one of founding members! Contact Janice at: sparks.janice@gmail.com.

Great to hear from you Lou! Drop Leucretia a line at: leumouse@yahoo.com

Muddy Buddy

Muddy Buddy
5.20.07 - Alums Vicki Bowlin and Colleen Fahey were Muddy Buddies at this years Muddy Buddy competition in Orlando on May 12. They made a decent showing in the senior division. Christine Gigicos also raced with a fellow police officer partner in the coed division. The mud was NOTHING to these ex-ruggers! Interested in running a Muddy Buddy? Check out their website: http://www.muddybuddy.com. Maybe we can dominate the race next year with a group of FSU alums!

Ros and Milca
5.9.07 - FSU alum Ros Chou sent in some news, photos and her new e-mail address: "Our 15s season just ended but I am getting ready for my favorite, 7s season! I was at the Prom match and have attached a picture with UF coach Kerri O'Malley. It was a great time. Florida State should throw an alumni match. Also, I saw Milca Fils-Aime at Nash Bash in March. As you can tell by the pictures, she was having a grand old time hanging out with my team. I am still in Austin, Texas and commuting to school at Texas A&M. I just finished my master's degree and I start the PhD. program in the fall. I will be traveling all over this summer for different tournaments and select side 7s. My e-mail address is: rosalind.chou@gmail.com.

5.9.07 - Heather Miller sent this in: "I'm walking in the Georgia Walk for Autism on May 19th with the Georgia Aquarium Team. It's sponsored by the Marcus Institute and Autism Speaks. The Marcus Institute was created by Bernie Marcus who is also a benefactor for the Georgia Aquarium. As you know, I volunteer at the Aquarium in my spare time, sometimes as the Deepo Mascot. I think it is neat that my two worlds are crossing with this great cause. I am asking you to join me in raising critically-needed funds for autism research by making a contribution in support of my Walk. Please consider making a donation on my Personal Donation Page. Whatever you can give will help! Every little bit helps! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress." Contact Heather at hxmilleratl@gmail.com for more info on this worthy cause!.

5.3.07 - The Back in Black Old Girls rugby team, including alum Colleen Fahey, won the semi-competitive bracket last weekend at the Washington Ruggerfest. Old age and treachery worked against 5 teams this time around - especially against the MARFU U23 side that BIB whipped in the final. Also present at the tournament was alum Mary Holmes still coaching the New York Village Lions.

5.2.07 - Eileen McCann reports that the GATORS had a Prom Match and Alumni weekend in April. According to Eileen, the current Gator team hosted the alums with a drink up on Friday and some of the alums played in the Prom match on Saturday... all the players played in Prom dresses. Our old pals Sue Mac and Cindy Diven were there as well as some of the other founding members of the Gators that FSU has played against and partied with so often. The Gators plan on making this an annual fixture. Check out the alum news from the Gators!

Mary Holmes 8.13.06 - Mary Holmes sent in this: "One of my ex-players, Petrie Quigley, asked me to write a bit about my time with FSU and the Village Lions. I sound like a dweb but I had a blast remembering (or trying to) some of our moments. Don't worry, names were omitted to protect the innocent...wait...there were no innocent parties...okay, names were omitted because, heck, I'm old and I can't remember anything anymore!! Anyway, thought you might get a kick out of it : )"
Check out Mary's interview on the FSU "powerhouse" team and what she's up to lately as the backs coach for the Village Lions. Read the interview.

TWOTS 20068.11.06 - The Touring Women Over Thirty team won the social division bracket at the Saranac Lake Can-Am Rugby Tournament the weekend of Aug. 4-6. The Old Girls won 4 matches against Meraloma, the U23 Nessies B, Morris and in the final, Penn State Lost Lions. FSU had alums this year in the lineup. They are recovering nicely after a rowdy weekend of playing and partying with the Old Girls! Highlights for the weekend included a mother vs. daughter showdown (KO Onfry vs her 16 year old daughter on the U23 Nessies), a slew of sideline kids and babies, "Everything Sequin" party theme, spaghetti dinner at the condos, two 50th birthday celebrations, a U23 vs over-30 match, a "Rookie (Chris Harju)" sighting, and Tracy's amazing black eye (she's just fine now).

Heather as Deepo
Heather Miller as "Deepo" and with Sandy Sea Turtle.
6.27.06 - Heather Miller just sent in this update: "I just moved again to my very own place in Buckhead. Now that I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm volunteering a lot at the new aquarium. Finally my shortness paid off as I'm the Aquarium's character mascot. Elita Lerner and Liza and Gabriel spotted me at Pride last weekend and got me thinking about my FSU rugby days. I'm teaching special education classes, reading to middle and high school students with LD in a private school in Roswell, GA. It's a good career and I really like the staff I work with. I really like the volunteering I get to do at the Aquarium. I give tours too. My new e-mail is hxmilleratl@yahoo.com.

Patty Jervey6.12.06 - Check out this article about Patty Jervey written during the All Star Championships in Boulder, CO. Jervey endures rugby's rigors for 20 years.

6.20.06 - Lots of alum sightings at the National All Star Championships in Boulder, Colorado in June. Kathy Flores was coaching the national team that went 1-1 against Rugby Canada. Her assistant coach, Candi Orsini was helping out with the backs. Patty Jervey is still a fixture on the National Team, and will head into her 5th Women's World Cup! Katie Delcontivo and Emily Meyer were playing for the South All Stars.... Katie was on the South Senior Side and Emily on the South U23 side. They both were awesome on the field! Nancy Dennis was there helping out with her team. Colleen Fahey was there shooting photos for the US Women Eagles website: www.WomenEagles.com and picking up a ceremonial first cap at the National Team cap ceremony.

5.15.06 - Deonna Brown checked in with our site recently... "I was doing a little surfin' as we Florida girls sometimes do and I came across the alumni page. I now live in Hampton, VA and am teaching at Phoebus High School. When I tell my students about some of my rugby playing experiences, they are a little surprised, and impressed. I have been here for 10 years and I really enjoy it. I was in touch with KD recently and I've been thinking about old times a little more.  The pictures brought back some fond memories. Maybe on one of my trips to visit my family in Lake City I'll get a chance to head your way. Until then, please say hello to everyone." Great to hear from you Deonna! Another Old Girl - Found! Contact Deonna at: Deonnaj@aol.com

5.14.06 - Old Girl sightings at the Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs, CA.... Vickie Bowlin, Christine Gigicos, and Clare Sup were spotted poolside enjoying the festivities. Vickie spotted a familiar face from the Midwest rugby team who recognized her too! Funny how us old gals get around!

5.1.06 - FSU Alums and (some current players!) have been playing with the UF-Gainesville DII club this past season. Here's a note from Lori Light: "Kelly Barrett has played loose forward/outside center for us since we met her in Tallahassee during the UF/FSU match (she played vs. Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Naples, and FL playoffs). She kicks ass where ever we put her on the field. Katie Delcontivo had graduation on Saturday, so was unable to make to the FL playoffs. Congratulations Katie! She's been pretty busy this season, but made our Daytona match back in Feb. Emily Meyer is our awesomely dependable scrumhalf and has been at every match. We could never have done this well without her. Lindsey Panzek joined the team recently - she played with us vs. Naples and this past wkend too. She claimed to be out of shape, but resurfaced her amazing tackling style vs. Orlando on Saturday. Bench (Kristen Ludlam) has made nearly every match too. Battling a blown engine and a cracked rib, she put up a lot of points from out on the wing. And me... Well, I'm still out there. Honestly, I'm not sure if I can play anything other position because I naturally gravitate to flyhalf position on the field. I'm still loving every bit of it. FSU alumni make up a good portion of our team, but we're a good mix of UF old girls and grad students too." Great to hear that Florida has some club rugby going on! Contact Lori if you are interested in playing: lori.light@lmco.com.

5.1.06 - Alums in action this weekend at Washington Ruggerfest. The Back in Black team, composed of over-30 ruggers, fell in the social division semi-finals to Norfolk. Colleen Fahey was representing for FSU alums on the Back in Black team. FSU alum Mary Holmes was present coaching her team, the Village Lions. The Lions lost to Back in Black in pool play (snicker snicker)... and Mary gracefully declined to don her cleats for a later match with Back in Black! Milca Fils-Aime was spotted on the sideline supporting the Old Girls team and getting a tan! Patty Jervey was playing for Atlanta, who fell in the club finals to NY. Patty is a fixture on the Eagles roster and will be playing next weekend at the territorial matchup between the Midwest and the US Women Eagles. Go Patty!

candi and greg 5.1.06 - Candi Orsini was one of the champions honored at the "Night of 100 Champions" - an awards event that was part of the VII Gay Games on April 22 in Chicago. Sports and culture legends were honored at the event for their contributions and achievements. Here's a list of champions. Diver Greg Louganis is another one of the honorees... and the host. Congrats to Candi! Candi brought US National Team Head Coach Kathy Flores to the event as her guest. Orono Girls Rugby
The Orono Girls Rugby Club (coach Kathy Chappell on the left)

3.21.06 - Kathi Chappell sent in this history of the club which we will use on our Traditions page: "I played on the first FSU rugby team in the fall of 1975. That team was coached by members of the FSU Men's Rugby Club. My boyfriend at the time played. I remember being recruited. I had just seen a rugby game for the first time. A FSU player (coach) came up to me asking what I thought of the game. I said it was the most violent, chaotic sport I had ever seen. He said, " We are starting a women's team, wanta play?" My response... "Absolutely" This was the first organized team sport I had joined. I convinced my reluctant roommate and longtime family friend Suzy Rosen to come join the team. The first game we played was against University of Florida. I played hooker at the time. We won by several points. I scored twice in that game and was hooked for life."

"I transferred to Texas A&M in winter of 1976 only to find no women's rugby in Texas. I started the Aggie team, functioned as player coach, though really we all taught each other. Because I had learned to play at FSU, I transferred that style of play to Texas A&M. We would always meet up with the FSU team at the Mardi Gras tournament, rooming with them and sharing athletic tape etc.  It was all a life altering activity for me. I learned more about life from those women than all of the classes in college. I moved to Houston in '78. Several of the A&M girls and I started the Houston Heathen Hearts. We remained close with the FSU players. Candi Orsini came to California with us one year to play in the Santa Barbara tournament and we continued to meet up with them in New Orleans."

"We went to Nationals in 1979 where we placed 3rd and FSU placed first. I have the National All Star team roster somewhere. It has several FSU players on it as well as Houston players. I moved to San Francisco in '80, where I played one season with The San Francisco Rugby Club, then two years with The UC Berkley Rugby Club."

"I stopped playing in 1983/84, had kids, moved to the Midwest. In 2000, I wrote a full feature screenplay titled, The Heathen Hearts. It is about my fabulous rugby adventures. Perhaps someday it will be made into a movie. In 2002, my daughter Callie, told me she wanted to join the high school girls rugby team and she asked me to help coach. I fell in love with the game all over again. My youngest daughter Ashli joined the team in 2003. We became a rugby household in a big way. This is my fifth season to coach. I found that the Midwest plays a much different style than I learned at FSU. But I could only teach what I knew, so with the guidance of my old friend Candi Orsini, we infused a running and speed game into the young club. We took second in state in 2003, first in 2004 and first in 2005. My daughter Ashli Pfeiffer now plays for The University of Wisconsin-Madison team. Here's a picture of our 2005 team. I am on the left side of the girls, Co-coach Sandy Schaffbauer is on the right." Wow! Thanks Kathi... we are soooo proud of our alums! Drop Kathi a line or two at: KathiJChapp@aol.com.

3.15.06 - Word has it that alum Susie Rosen is taking a month long trip to New Zealand! Go Susie! Drop her a line... she just MIGHT be checking her email while on tour! Srosen@carolina.rr.com

3.13.06 - Old FSU ruggers were out in force this weekend at a birthday party in Tallahassee for social side member Robin Ratliff (who turned 50!). Alums in attendance were: Candi Orsini, Karen Hornsby, Ellen Shine, Gina Shopak, Devon Myers, Carol Kinnenun, and Colleen Fahey. Ellen, Candi and Karen were some of the original ruggers and reminisced about the "old days" when FSU regularly lost to UF. UF had a headstart because they formed up a year earlier. Ellen remembers playing against our own Eileen McCann at the hooker position. Ellen said that FSU hit their groove on an away trip and won their first matches at a tourney where the ball bounced off Suzie Rosen's head and landed in a wings arms for the winning try. Their next match went all the way to kicks and they won that too. They never looked back and went on to win Nationals that year (75?).... Candi and Ellen both said they still have their "pewter cups." Gina Shlopak is now living in Tallahassee with her daughter, Toni and parents. She admits that she is playing SOFTBALL and loving it! Carol K revealed a fine singing voice during some special songs dedicated to Robin. Karen is now living in Hollywood, Florida and working at Jackson Medical and Trauma Center as a Cardiovascular Perfusionist in Miami. Check out our alum list for updated listings!

3.13.06 - Ros Chou sent in this alum sighting:"... I was with my Austin team two weekends ago playing the Houston Women's Athletic Rugby Club. After the match a woman came up to me asking me my name and it turned out to be Caroline Martin (I don't know her married name)!!! We screamed at each other when we realized who the other person was, we hadn't seen each other since 1996. She's playing for HARC and living in Houston with her husband. It was great to see another old gal FSU rugger." Those FSU ruggers keep turning up everywhere!

2.20.06 - Old girls present at the recent FSU vs UF home match included: Eileen McCann. Eileen lives in Tallahassee now and has a thriving counseling practice. Drop Eileen a line at: E_Mccann@comcast.net. Eileen was tempted to rejoin her old UF team as they won the match 14-5. Also on the sidelines was Jackie Watts and son, Ben. Jackie is a proud mom of 2-year-old Ben who was sporting a rugby jersey and the number 4... hmm... a future lock?? Contact Jackie at: JackieWatts@wattsmechanical.com.

Kat Phipps2.20.06 - Kat Phipps was spotted in the winter edition of FSU's Research in Review magazine. She is featured with a FULL PAGE photo and article, "As for Phipps, she graduated in the spring with degrees in music and biochemistry and spent her summer continuing her research. She then packed up five years of life and studies in Tallahassee, and the singer-turned-scientist hauled her belongings to Yale University on her way to a Ph.D. in biophysics and biochemistry. She's not sure where her passion for research will take her, but neither did she predict her switch to science as a career in the first place." Check out the article!

2.11.06 - Alum Jean Bready sent in this update: "Got a promotion at work and recently started training a bloodhound for police work. That's been fun. Due to a snowboarding accident last year which resulted in a fabulous tib/fib shatter I'm the proud owner of two plates and 12 screws which I thought was going to end my athletic years. The good news is that since I'm unable to stay away from sports, I began rowing, which has been a wonderful rehab. I've missed Florida immensely and have been considering a move back and a transfer to a Naples area department. If anyone is in touch with Lynette Inscoe, I'd love to get her e-mail!" Great to hear from you Jean! Drop her a line at: fsu_nolegyrl@yahoo.com.

Robin 1.5.06 - Over the holidays, Robin Pace dropped by Tallahassee for a visit. She's still living in Ashville, NC and is now in chiropractic school! She is still (hyper)active ; ) and competes on a bike team now. Other alums who dropped in to see Robin: Carol Kinnunen, Devon Myers and Colleen Fahey. Robin is a prime candidate for OLDE GIRLS RUGBY... Here's a pic she sent in her racing club jersey. Great to see an old alum back in good ol Tally! Drop Robin a line at: rpace12@charter.net.

Milca and Ros 11.15.05 - Ros Chou, now playing with the Austin Valkyries, checked in with this update: "Hey! I hope all is well and I just wanted to let you know that Milca Fils-Aime and I hung out in DC this weekend. My team travelled there to play the DC Furies and NOVA. We did really well, winning all three matches." Ros was also mentioned in an article in Goff on Rugby: "...on the East Coast the Austin Valkyries swept their Mid-Atlantic tour opponents. The Valkyries defeated the DC Furies 18-0 and a 14-5 victory over NOVA. It was another step forward for the emerging Texas team. While the Austinites have traditionally had a strong pack, transplants from Florida (Rosalind Chou), Seattle (Heidi Whitman and Meredith Bagley) and Texas A&M (Steph Dorsey) have opened up a strong weapon in the backline..." Way to go, Ros! Drop her a line at: rsc2702@gmail.com

11.14.05 - The Golden Eagles, playing at the Bermuda World Rugby Classic defeated the British Isles' Classic Lionesses - 15-10. The Golden Eagles were coached by FSU Alums Kathy Flores and Candi Orsini. Patty Jervey was playing in this yearly match up. This year's match was touted as a World Cup warm-up since the US National team will face England in their pool play. It's a good sign that the Golden Eagles dominated in this matchup! Great coaching by Kathy and Candi prevailed! Check out photos from the match.

11.14.05 - Hollin Gammage sent in this update: "I've just been invited to open an art show (playing my music) at this gallery in New York on December 15. Here's a map to the place I think it starts around 7 or 8 pm http://www.deitch.com/gallery/soho.php. Oh yeah, having rugby dreams last night. 11.2.05 - Dana Teagarden sent in this update: "I refereed at the Armed Forces Championships at Camp LeJuene, NC Oct 19-21 and ran into Kerry Gibson (McWeeney) - talk about a blast from the past! We only had a bit to talk as I was about to run touch for a match but she's stationed there as a laser tech and is pursuing EMT/Paramedic training as I think she's getting out of the Corps pretty soon. I also reffed the WNT vs the NRU Select in Philly Sept 24th. It was a wonderful pleasure to be on the pitch w/ Patty Jervey again. Kathy was really supportive of me getting this national appointment and it was great to see her and Candi. I've been appointed to ref at the ITT's in Orlando December 2-4 and hope to run into some of the usual suspects there as well! See you in Orlando at ITT's?" It's great to hear from one of our alums! It was really cool to have a small crew of representatives for the state of Florida. I said I would update you about my current goings on so here goes... I left camp in July after six full years of working there (played with UF 7s team in DC ruggerama tourney for my last matches with them), backpacked on the Appalachian Trail, then headed out to College Station, Texas for grad school. I am in the PhD program for Sociology. I am just under two hours from Austin and have started commuting to play with the Valkyries as a center. All is going well with the team, we are up and coming, beating the Jazz twice so far this season, in addition to upsetting #7 Keystone in Pumpkinfest. We finished 3rd in the tourney ahead of Beantown, losing to New York who took the championship. I love playing with the big girls and am learning so much from my new team every day. I got to play with Lori Light once again, as she picked up with Austin for our match against Keystone. School is good, rugby is great. I hope your season goes well. We may be coming to Florida in February for the Ft. Lauderdale Ruggerfest, so hopefully people can make it down to watch some good rugby. My e-mail is the same. Go Seminoles!" - Rosalind rsc2702@gmail.com

9.28.05 - Lucy Shultz sent this in: "Hey everyone, crazy weird that I have been a graduate from FSU for 5 years now. I miss Tally and all of my rugby buddies. I hope everyone is doing great. I am living in Bloomington, Indiana. Going to nursing school, I have two more years left, helping out the women's Indiana Univ. rugby team with their back line when I can get a chance, playing softball, working at the local hospital in Post Partem and Pediatrics as a nurse tech. (for the last 3 years). I went to the Peace Corps in Jamaica for a while and it didn't work out because I found out that I was very sick. That is another story. I am okay now, but will forever be confined to the constraints of the disease I have. It is all good, you win some and loss some. If anyone wants to email me it is Scro15@aol.com. Please feel free. Hello to everyone. Love you all, Lucy." Great to hear from you Lucy!

I played from 1976-1981 ish.... Another gator old girl (in fact the original president/coach of the gator team) is getting married in New England. 6.20.05 - The Village Lions, coached by Mary Holmes, came in 3rd in the Div. II Club Championships. Congrats to Mary and the Village Lions!

5.24.05 - Janine Pardee, one of our very early alums, wrote in with a bit of history and to add her name to the list of alums. Here's her interesting early history of FSUWRFC: "Kathi Chappell played with the first FSU side in '75 or so. She then transferred to Texas A&M where she founded the Aggies women's side. After 2 ? years there, she moved to Houston, and in fall 1977 started a women's side with other Aggie grads called Houston Heathen Hearts. That is where I started playing, and in 1978 moved home to Orlando. I then played at the first national tournament with FSU in 1978 and again in 1979. Around then I started an Orlando team, which floundered around with the Gators and USF for a couple years. I played in Tampa in 1981 when the old USF girls tried to start a city team. We took second at Mardi Gras to FSU in Feb? 1982 with pickups including Clare Sup of Denver. That fall 1982 Clare moved from Colorado to Orlando and we started the Orlando team back up as the Alouettes, lasting from '82 to '85?. At that time Clare and Jan Auger moved to Tallahassee to play with FSU. So you can see that many of those early FSU players had created influence lines that criss-crossed and even ran back through the FSU club over the years. By the way, Kathi's daughters, I believe, were playing for the Under-23 Side a couple of years back. I enjoyed your website and the trip down memory lane. Thanks!" Drop Janine a line at: jpardee@duoassociates.biz

5.17.05 - Dana Teagarden, one of our alums and a certified rugby referee, checked in with this update: "I cruised by the FSU website and thought I'd touch base w/ you. I "came home" to rugby this season and have resumed reffing to great success here in San Diego - I didn't have many expectations after so much time away (5 years! my how it flys) but it must just be like riding a bike. Rugby here in SoCal is quite a treat - the geographic density of quality matches is amazing. I tell people about the drives we would make to play or I would make to referee and they can't comprehend having the closest match be 5 hrs! I had the pleasure of seeing Kathy and Candi in New York as I reffed the Berkeley win over the New York women. This season has been totally unexpected. I came back because I woke up one day and realized I missed it - I'd hoped to just regain something I loved and to contribute. Since late November I've gone from hoping I remembered which end of the whistle to stick where to doing Div I SoCal men, several national appointments, and a promotion to B-3. Life is wild..." It's great to hear from you, Dana! Drop Dana a line at: dtgarden@yahoo.com

We talked Milca into coming down to play with us (Gainesville Women's Club) in our South Playoff tournament. We beat USF and then had a tough match vs Naples. We pulled out the win on this day, but we ended up losing to Nashville (i think) in the championships down in Ft. Myers. We did well, however, for our first official season as a club side. From Karen (Ren) Martinez (FSUWRFC 1993-1995)
"I am living in New York City, moved here 5.5 yrs ago after traveling around South Africa. At first when I moved to NYC, I thought I would hook up with the Gotham team (now called NY Rugby), but then I started doing the sailboat regatta thing.. and that kept me busy 2 nights a week doing "beer can" racing and most Spring - Fall weekends. The sailing has taken me to Bermuda and up and down the East Coast...busy busy. So no rugby. Anyway.. I leave 1 block from the NY Rugby team's local Bar, Ship of Fools... I usually run into a few players there and I always try to catch the big 7's tourny over Thanksgiving weekend. I am a sales rep for Health Care staffing and head hunting agency here in NY. Not sure if you remember, but my old roomate Laura (she used to watch Lisa's son Turner), well were chatting the other night, wondering how everyone from FSU Rugby was doing, you, patty, kathy flores, Fru, Karen Moran, Sue, Bebe, Browni, etc.. so I decided to see if the website is working and YES it is!!! Oh so Laura and I are living together again in NYC. If anyone is ever headed up to NYC or up this way (boston/dc/philly) please drop me a line... there is always room to crash at my apt in the city or I'll come watch the team play. Here is my info if anyone wants it: Karen Martinez, 548 East 82 Street, Apt 4A, NY, NY 10028, 917-689-6584. PS, I had just found the tank tops that we made one year...it was Rookie Fest or something like that!!! Great giggles!"
It's great to year from you Ren! Drop her a line at: Sailchica@hotmail.com

Been with the Orlando Police Department for 12 years, left 10 years worth of undercover with a task force, to come back to Internal Affairs and go from the bad girl to the girl investigating the cops for things I'm sure I got away with as a kid!! Don't worry I still love to have a good time and know how to really stay out of trouble. Anyway I live in Orlando so anyone coming to town needs to drop a line and visit. Here's an update from Nancy Dennis: I relocated to Raleigh NC in Sept. '02. I made the South Senior Women's Select Side and went to ITT's in December. I also played at Philly Pumpkinfest and Savannah St. Pat's. Other old gals at the tournament were: Candi Orsini, who is helping coach the Orlando Men's Club (she was also a big help on the FSU sideline!), Patty Jervey was seen tearing up opposing backs in a match against New Orleans with the South Senior Women's All Stars (she's still out there! Go Patty!), and Colleen Fahey picked up with their old pals from New Orleans who took 2nd place in the club division. Also, picking up for FSU was a familar face in the backline: Rosalind Chou who travelled all the way from Seattle to participate (and get back to Florida!) FSU won the collegiate division, by the way, with wins over USM and UCF!

Elita Lerner, who just moved to Chicago, IL reports: "Life is going nice and slow. Liza is adjusting to her new job, working nights, 7pm to 7am. My sleep patterns are not the best, however I am not complaining. I am studying for the GMAT, playing soccer and flag football and spending lots of time with my family." Good luck, Elita - we miss you here in Tally!

Sheila Hill sent this in: "I've been working alot of hours doing Special Olympics, and Gril Scouts, and we just started a new recreation program at one of the elementary schools working with some severely emotionally disturbed kids , autistic kids etc. so things have been kinda crazy. I just bought a condo last week. I love it! . . . Let me know when you guys plan a reunion - It'd be great to see everyone."

Andra Douglas is an owner/player of the New York Sharks Women's Professional Football Team. Congrats Andra! Wonder where she picked up those tackling skills?!! Does she actually throw the ball FORWARD??

Wendy Lewis was spotted on the sidelines at the FSU Men's Summer 7s Tournament (Aug. 18). She's living in Tallahassee and doing well! See the Alumni List below to drop her a line!

Vicki Bowlin, Candi Orsini, Kathy Flores, and Colleen Fahey played for the famous Touring Women Over Thirty Side at the CanAm Rugby Tourament in Saranac Lake, NY on Aug 3-4. The team did great - winning 2 Saturday matches (one against the Northeast Under 23s!!) before falling to Beantown 10-5 in a thriller! Way to go Old Girls! Also on the sidelines was Mary Holmes who was seen purchasing new cleats! Rumor has it she will be picking up with the Back in Black Old Girls team at the Philly Pumpkinfest Tournament. Check out Saranac photos!

Katina Stamat reports: "Right now I'm in Howell, New Jersey working for my parents at their radio station. I've been doing this for the past 6 months, I'm their "engineer". For the year and a half before that I was a carpenter -building houses and my muscles. Then I worked for an internet company, still do some sidework for them. I'm applying to go back to school, hell with this real world bullcrap - I'm undecided on my field, whether an MBA or go back to school for 5 years for Architecture I haven't quite decided, but I'm going!

Cathy Calderola update: "I just started a new job (I was working for a cruise line, now I'm working with hotels). Working in the real world really makes you appreciate your school days!! I love Ft. Lauderdale, though. There's always something going on, and I DON'T miss Tallahassee summers!! I do miss everything else about Tallahassee, though. That¼s one of the reasons why I'm very excited about a reunion. What can be better than a rugby reunion in good, ol'Tallahicky!"

LeeAnn Tabone Bungert sends this bit of wisdom: "I played 1978-81 Women's National Champs!! The brain is getting foggy but... "There once was a man named McSweeney who split some gin on his weenie not being uncouth he added vermouth and slipped his date a martini." Which explains Martini and Cigar bars!!!"

Ellen Moran (Little Ellen) sent in this: "I am working for a small sea kayak outfitter based in Provincetown, MA. We do guided sea kayak tours, rental kayaks and retail. This past winter I set up the retail shop (new part of the business) acting as buyer, merchandiser and business manager. This summer I will be guiding trips and doing double duty as the business manager. I split my time between the Cape and my home in NH. I own a log house up in the woods of NH and have been in NH for the last 12 years." Another old gal made good! Send Little Ellen a note - see the old girls contact list below.

Theresa (Tree Garvin) Yong sent this info: "Jeremy and I are great and the baby (Caitlin) is getting so big. We are doing well here in Miami. Jeremy will graduate in August and I am getting my MBA at U of M. Unfortunately for me they only have a men's rugby team. I miss rugby soooo much."

Cathy Calderola writes: That's awesome that new gals are coming out. I don't recognize a single one of them. I guess my school has all grown up and gone away =( It's great to see that there's new blood to keep the team going, though. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about playing some rugby!!

A big group of old gals got together recently for a good cause - several fundraisers for the 2001 American Cancer Society's Relay for Life - Team Friends. Among the activities: a garage sale, 2 golf tournaments, and a dinner/silent auction event. Most notably, Kathy Kojm and Rachel Shillinglaw made an appearance at Jan Auger's 3-par golf event - dressed "head-to-toe" in some vintage golfing gear! What a sight! Clare Sup even sponsored a hole - all the way from California! Way to go old girls!

Bondy Gibson now living in Virginia, writes: "a reunion would be great. In fact, since most of us are now "grown and financially solvent" it might be a good idea to make it a fundraising opportunity through alums. Great idea, Bondy! Details on fundraising coming soon!

Kara Williams ('92) reports: I live in Jacksonville now, after 2 years in Germany and 7 years in San Antonio Texas. It's good to be back in Florida - no place like home! I have a great job as an advocate for refugee children. I help them get the best education possible at San Jose Elementary. I also help them adjust to being in America. It is the best job ever, I love it.

Gina Shlopak sent in this update: "I am still living in Rockport, working at Cyrk and attempting to be a good parent to Toni and our yellow lab Tonka. Toni just turned seven and is in the 1st grade. No sign yet of any interest what so ever in athletics, but my brainwashing will continue until I get the desired results. She is already an FSU fan, so I guess that I am doing something right."

Karin Morton sent in this info: "I'm still in NY working at a management consulting firm. Have not been to Tally-ho in years but I think it's time for a visit."

Connie Jakubcin also reported that she is alive and well and living near Nashville, TN. She is currently happily married and writing 2 books!

Annette Ruff was spotted on the sidelines at the Mardi Gras Ruggerfest. She is now coaching the Birmingham Women's Club and doing well as a new LAWYER! Go Annette!

Holmsie broke out the Dom Perignon for a toast. Thanks, Mary! See the Alumni List to drop her a line.
