10.20.08 - FSU beat a tough UF side 19-15 in our first home match of the season. Rookie number eight, Amanda Hoak, started off the scoring early in the match with a bruising run through the UF defense off a penalty play. FSU Fullback Caitlin Brown then ran in a thrilling 40 meter try later in the half off after several phases of rucks. She also kicked the conversion for another 2 points. Florida found their strength for the middle part of the match, abusing FSU tacklers with several long runs by their scrumhalf, and scored 3 unanswered and unconverted tries. Late in the second half, FSU finally broke through the UF line successfully with Caitlin Brown again cruising through defenders for her second try and successful conversion. FSU held strong for the final 8 minutes as UF brought the ball to within 5 meters of scoring. Persistent defense and supportive play from outstanding players Kelley Bilbrey, Kendall Vaughn, Cory Coates, Adriana Gutierrez, and Amanda Mahoney, preserved the win for FSU.
