FSU vs Georgia Tech - Sept. 9, 2006
In our first match of the season against GT we came back with a win! We won 22-7. Scrumhalf Anna Deschryer came up big with 2 trys. Anneka Thompson playing outside center also put one in and made a kick too. Lock Amanda Mahoney representing the forwards, also scored a try. Anna won overall FSU woman of the match and Devin Huber, playing in her first game for FSU (transfered from UF) at flyhalf, won the honor of FSU Back of the match. Emily Meyer did an amazing job at 8 man and won FSU Forward of the match. Some stand outs were flankers Sarah Marrara and Laine Oravona, who were tackling machines throughout the whole game and will definitely help Georgia Tech remember their first 15s game ever in school history. Rookies Adrienne Behmke,Pam Reed, and Melissa Hafner did a good job with their first rugby game ever and played some tough rugby.

FSU vs UCF - Oct. 28, 2006
In our final home matches of the Fall season, we lost a hard fought battle to UCF. In the first half, FSU quickly drove down the field. 2nd row, Amanda Mahoney, scored off of a penalty play about 10 meters out. UCF answered with a converted try near the end of the half. In the second half, number 8 Emily Meyer, muscled her way through four UCF defenders into the try zone to add another try and scrumhalf Devin Huber made a brilliant drop kick from the sideline to add 2 more on the conversion. Later in the half, UCF kicked for points on a penalty and scored 3. FSU held until the last 10 minutes when a series of penalties put UCF within 10 meters of their try zone. UCF scored and converted off a final penalty play. To their credit, the FSU forwards controlled most of the game.

FSU vs. UF - Sept. 24, 2005
Check out photos from our first match against UF in Sept. Photos are courtesy of Emile Mufdi. View the photo gallery.
On a hot and humid day, FSU took on rivals UF in Gainesville. Rookie Kelly Barrett took the opening kickoff and started off the 40 minute halves. FSU had the first major break in the game as Casey Fields broke through many UF tackles and brought FSU to within 20 meters from their try line. Ball possession went back and forth between the evenly matched teams until Virginia Johnson took a penalty in for a try in the corner. Casey Fields broke through the UF defense and scored in a second effort off multi-phase ball. Before the end of the first half, UF capitalized on missed tackles and put 5 points on the board. In the hot conditions, players were pushed to their limits as several Lady Seminoles came off due to the heat. FSU rookies came on to the scene with a roar. Great tackles were executed by rookies Megan O'Nan, Kelly Barrett, and Crystal Ahern. The FSU pack held their own as props Kendra Martinez, Joy Dixon, Stacy Hosenfeld, Kim Chilmonik, and hookers Katie Delcontivo and Laurel Alfson dug deep to finish the match. The teams were tied up, when Katie Delcontivo saved a go-ahead try by UF by holding up a sure try in the try zone. UF was unable to capitalize on that possession. A late FSU penalty allowed UF to post 3 points off a penalty kick. Fullback Sandy Zeimetz had an awesome tackle late in the match and the FSU backline, including wing Mary Robins, and center Casey Fields rallied to save several offensive pushes. In the closing minutes, UF took advantage of an FSU mental error in the try zone for 5 more points.
Final Score: FSU 12 - UF 20
FSU B-side vs. UF B-side - Sept. 24, 2005
To top off the hot afternoon, the B-sides fought to a 5-5 tie. The FSU backline provided fantastic pressure and Lara Tellechea scored an unconverted try after breaking several UF tackles. Rookie scrumhalf Anna DeSchryver earned her keep, providing good ball and maintaining possession in several tackles. Other outstanding rookie players in the match: Corrie Coates, Crystal Ahern, and Stephanie Hill all contributed to a learning experience for both squads. Thanks to UF and our referees for providing excellent competition and a nice social afterwards!
Final Score: FSU 5 - UF 5

Florida Cup Tourney - Nov. 19-20, 2005
FSU travelled to Orlando to compete for the statewide Florida Cup. First up was a match against our rivals, the University of Florida. FSU started out very strong in the first half with two consecutive scores by outside center Casey Fields who burst thru the Florida line breaking several tackles along the way. Lock Virginia Johnson contributed during the half with some good tackles and a bruising 30 meter run upfield. FSU backs struck again when fullback Sandy Zeimetz scored off a scrum. Rookie flanker Meagan O'Nan then cashed in on great support of the backline with another try. Zeimetz posted 3 conversions in the first half. The second half was a different story and against a much stronger cast from UF. FSU was out played and out run despite heroic efforts by hooker Katie Delcontivo, flanker Kelly Barrett, and wings Jocelyn Karpy and Laura Tellechea.
Final Score: FSU 31 - UF 37
Many FSU players then picked up for a motley side match. The match was set up to provide competition for up and coming players from USF and Daytona. Rookie flanker Sarah Marrara showed solid play before suffering a soon-to-be very colorful black eye. Rookies Ashley Jones, Laine Oravona, Crystal Ahern, Corey Coates, Melissa Geary all did a terrific job during the full match in various positions. Lock Amanda Ogle and 8-man Amanda Synowiel also provided steady play and strong leadership during the match.
FSU then faced Naples in a shortened consolation match. Flyhalf Amanda Conforti and rookie fullback Crystal Ahern both scored in this hotly contested match. Despite losing center Casey Fields to injury, FSU prevailed. Center Sahar Moghaddam, lock Amanda Mahoney, and scrumhalf Anna Deschriyver held tough in a hot and tiring match.
Final Score: FSU 10, Naples 5

Other outstanding players in the match were center Casey Fields with some outstanding runs up the middle of the field, center Anneka Thompson was solid in defense, flankers Sarah Marrara and Chloe Ditzel kept up constant pressure on the UF backline and within the forwards in open play. Rookies Leslie Pipkin and Jenna Pine each made a positive impact in the match!

Game 2 - FSU vs UF (B)
It was a different story in the second match as FSU's reserves and grad students showed their mettle in our only home match. Number 8 Kelly Barrett was the hero of the match with 4 scores! FSU front row players in the match: Katie Delcontivo, Katie Osgard, Amanda Synowiec, Joy Dixon and rookie Meagan Hrenko were outstanding in set pieces and loose play. Flanker Meagan O'Nan and 8 Kelly Barrett linked with the backline countless times, providing scoring opportunites and shutting down the UF backs. Center Emily Meyers scored in the first half after a maul brought the ball into scoring position. Congrats to our rookies: Melissa Geary, Erin Schmid, Jenna Pine, and Meagan Hrenko for outstanding effort in your first matches!
